According to WhoScored, the Nigerian star recorded four interceptions, one tackle, one shot and 88% pass accuracy (52/59).
The stand-in captain didn’t only deliver an impressive performance at the back; he also contributed immensely to the attack.
This was evident in the 63rd minute, when he took the ball off Cunha’s feet, drove forward and struck a shot that was initially parried by the United goalkeeper.
However, Lisandro Martínez turned the rebound into his own net to give Fulham the lead.
Though United equalized through Matheus Cunha’s 89th-minute goal, Bassey and his teammates will be glad they earned a crucial point against such a difficult opponent.
Meanwhile, after leading Fulham to the draw, Bassey will turn his attention to the upcoming international break, as Nigeria begin their quest for a place at the 2027 AFCON.
The Super Eagles will take on Madagascar in Uyo on September 25, and Bassey is expected to be in Eric Chelle’s starting XI, providing the needed shield for the goalkeeper.
The team will need his experience, quality and strength to begin their AFCON qualifying series on a bright note.
