Toni Payne broke the deadlock in the 42nd minute following an assist from Uchenna Kanu, who snatched the ball off the Comoros goalkeeper.

Kanu nodded home in the 57th minute to double the lead, following an inviting cross from Folashade Ijamilusi.

Three minutes later, Kanu thought she had added a third goal for Nigeria, again from an Ijamilusi cross, but her effort was cancelled for offside.

Having conceded two goals, the Comoros ladies pushed forward in search of a consolation goal. However, their efforts only earned them corners, which were comfortably dealt with by Chiamaka Nnadozie.

Payne got her second goal of the night in the 63rd minute after Blessing Okpe’s cut-back pass found her unmarked in the box. Her first-time shot was too powerful for the Comoros shot-stopper.

Ijamilusi and Kanu combined again to score the fourth goal for the West African giants in the 66th minute. Ijamilusi’s cross from the right flank was nodded into the net by the striker, who now has 26 goals for the Super Falcons.

Okpe then showed her dribbling prowess when she received the ball from Jennifer Echegini and dribbled her way into the Comoros box. She was brought down by a Comoros defender, leaving the referee with no option but to award a penalty.

Christy Ucheibe stepped up and converted from the spot in the 71st minute, giving Nigeria a 5-0 lead.

Though the Super Falcons had some opportunities to increase the tally, they could not find the back of the net, and the match ended 5-0.

What Next?

The result gives Nigeria a 7-0 aggregate victory over Comoros, following the 2-0 win in the first leg on Friday, 9 October, courtesy of goals from Michelle Alozie and Kanu. It also marks a bright start for interim head coach Augustine Eguavoen, whose side has now scored seven goals and conceded none in this round of the campaign.

The Super Falcons will now face Morocco in the third round of the qualifying campaign, scheduled for 23 February to 6 March 2027. The North Africans advanced to this stage after the Republic of Congo withdrew from their second-round tie.

While Morocco will be a far sterner test than Comoros, the Super Falcons will head into the tie with confidence considering their sharp attack in this round.
